imagine a march madness bracket, but instead of basketball teams, the bracket is full of opinions about the sport. each take like “the best defenses in the nba all have an elite shot blocker” gets tested against previous seasons, without knowledge of the result. the strongest signal wins and moves on. the last theories standing have been proven to have the most accurate predictions. that is what the projections are built on.

Same discipline across every sport: pre-register, gate against unseen data, ship only what carries. Bayes for NBA, Statcast layers for MLB, one-feature Elo for futbol — methods differ, discipline doesn't. Noise that looks irreducible usually isn't. It's structure we haven't found yet.
